Landscaped Master Pages
Landscaped or Rotated Master Pages are very easy to create. You can create these no matter if your document has single sided or double sided master pages.
  1. Open you FrameMaker document and go to View>Master Pages.

  2. FrameMaker will switch you to the Master Page View.

    Select Special>Add Master Page.

  3. The Add Master Page Window Appears.

  4. In the "Name" box give your Master Page a name. For this example I am calling this page LeftRotate. Make sure that "Copy from Master Page:" is selected and that "Left" is selected in the box to the right.

  5. Click Add. You have now added a Master Page called "LeftRotate" that, at the moment, looks exactly like you "Left" Master Page.

If you are using Double-Sided documents you want to repeat from Step 2 in order to Create a "RightRotate" Master Page.

  6. Now that you have created two new master pages, "LeftRotate" and "RightRotate" you need to modify the properties of these two pages. While still in Master Page View go to the "LeftRotate" Master Page. On the PC CTRL-Left Mouse Click on the Main Text box, on the MAC Option-Mouse Click on the Main Text box, not the headers or footers. You will see little boxes or handles appear on the Main Text box.

  7. To get the Object Properties for this Main Text box, on the PC - Right Mouse Click on the Main Text box, on the MAC - CTRL Mouse Click on the Main Text box, and select Object Properties from the Dropdown Menu.

  8. The "Customize Text Frame" window appears. On a piece of paper copy down the Unrotated Size, Width and Height, also the Offset From, Top and Left. You will need these numbers in a few minutes. Close the Customize Text Frame window.

  9. Select Format>Customize Layout>Rotate Page Clockwise. You will notice that your Page is now Rotated into a Landscape Page. We are almost done.

  10. Even though your Page is rotated you need to rotate the Main Text box so that it will be in the correct orientation for your document. If the little boxes or handles have disappeared from your Main Text Frame, repeat Step 6. To Rotate the Main Text box into the correct orientation, on the PC - Right Mouse Click on the Main Text box, on the MAC - CTRL Mouse Click on the Main Text box, and select Rotate from the Dropdown Menu.

  11. The Rotate Selected Objects window appears. DO NOT CHANGE any settings in this window. This is exactly what you want the settings to be, select "Rotate". The Main Text box is now rotated in the correct orientation but it is not sized correctly.

  12. To get the Object Properties for this Main Text box, on the PC - Right Mouse Click on the Main Text box, on the MAC - CTRL Mouse Click on the Main Text box, and select Object Properties from the Dropdown Menu.

  13. The Customize Text Frame window appears. Now is when you need the piece of paper you had earlier. Under the Unrotated Size, change the Width number to the Height number from your paper and change the Height number to the Width number, also the Offset From, change Top to the number you wrote down for Left and change Left to the number you wrote down for Top. Click "Set" and you are done with the page.

  14. Repeat Steps 6 - 13 for your other Rotated page. Now your Rotated Pages are ready to USE.

  15. Select View>Body Pages.

  16. Move to a page where you need a rotated page. Select Format>Page Layout>Master Page Usage.

  17. The Master Page Usage window appears. Click on the dropdown window beside the word Custom. You will now notice that you have a RightRotate and a LeftRotate Master page listed. Select either the "LeftRotate" or "RightRotate" page depending on which one you need for the page that you are applying it to. Make sure that you have "Current Page" selected in the "Apply To" section of this window. Select "Apply". The new master page is now placed for your use. Repeat this anytime that you need a Rotated Page.
